Flagship of Christopher Columbus

Santa María, original name Marigalante, Santa María Christopher Columbus’ flagship on his first voyage to America. About 117 feet (36 metres) long, the “Santa María” had a deck, three masts, and forecastle and sterncastle and was armed with bombards that fired granite balls. She performed well in the voyage but ran aground off Haiti on Dec. 25, 1492, and was lost. Her sister ships, the “Niña” and “Pinta”, less than half her size, returned safely to Spain despite near catastrophe in storms.

On August 1492 Santa Maria, Pinta and Nina started their voyage to America in Palos de la Frontera port in southwest coast of Spain. After two months at 12 October sailors saw a land. There are no exact drawings of the Santa Maria but it is supposed that a length of hull of the ship was about 35 meters and displacement about 200tons.

Does not come with tools, paint, glue, display stand or pedestals.
