Constellation (AM1700/80) Scale: 1:35 Length: 60 cm
Constellation was designed by Olin J. Stephens, who had already designed America’ Cup winners such as the J-Class Ranger (1937) and the Twelve Metre Class Columbia (1958). She had a wooden hull and an overall sail area of around 1690 square metres. Skipper R.N. Bavier led her to victory over Sovereign, the British contender.
Founded in 1851, The America’s Cup, informally known as the Auld Mug, is a trophy awarded in the sport of sailing. It is the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America’s Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger). There is no fixed schedule, with matches held several years apart on dates agreed between the defender and the challenger.
This ship kit includes Pre-built resin hull, high quality wooden deck, brass photo-ectched parts, metal and resin fittings, cloth sails, detailed instructions booklet and construction plans.
