Information

Corel’s Ranger is a wooden model ship kit of a typical revenue cutter used in the early 1800s for patrol on the American coast. The ship was one of many similar of similar type designed by William Doughty, based on the hull type called the Baltimore Clipper. The Ranger featured a topsail schooner rig that was easy to handle with a small crew, and she carried a large carronade that rotated a full 360 degrees, permitting the single gun to fire to either side of the ship.

Corel’s kit features a double plank-on-bulkhead hull construction with all wooden structural parts. Decorative pieces and fittings are made of cast metal, pre-shaped wood, and turned brass fittings, including the tiller, bill, helm, belaying pins, anchors, mast caps, cabin windows and door, handrails, cleats, and carronade, to name but a few.

Two sizes of line are included for rigging the model, plus boxwood blocks, and turned walnut deadeyes. Woods such as walnut, lime wood, and mahogany are used extensively. Clear and detailed full-size plans and instruction allow you to build the Ranger with ease.
